Types of TMT bar and it’s Manufacturing Process

Thermomechanical Treatment (or TMT) is also known by the metallurgical process. These TMT bars conform to Indian Standards. There are many types of TMT bars on the market. However, the most popular TMT bars in today's market are FE 500 and FE 500D. These TMT bars are used for commercial and structural construction.

TMT Bar is the main building material that extends the structural life. It can be used for all types of constructions including flyovers, bridges, dams and dams. Because of its properties like Tensile Strength and Yield Power, Thermal Resistance and Corrosion Resistance, it is important to choose the best TMT bar for your building project.

Manufacturing Process of TMT steel bars:

TMT bars are subject to a variety of tests to ensure they have the highest quality. TMT Bars are subject to a variety of processes during the manufacturing process. These include rolling, water quenching, heat treatment, cooling, and heating.

Three factors are key to the quality of TMT Steel

1. The quality of the raw materials

2. High rolling mills ensure that all steel bars are perfectly shaped.

3. Quality control system for tempering and quenching

TMT Steel can be made by five main processes.

1. Steel extraction from iron ore

2. Primary steel making

3. Quenching

4. Self-tempering

5. Atmospheric Cooling

Steel Extraction From Iron Ore:

TMT Bar is made from coke, iron ore and dolomite. They are then melted and used in a blast furnace to be processed with hot gases. In its molten state, iron is pre-treated to make steel. The steel's chemical composition can be purified by running it through a ladle heating procedure. The molten steel is then poured into a casting machine to achieve the desired shape.

Primary steel making

Pre-treatment refers to the mixing of oxygen and carbon in iron in an oxygen furnace in order to remove carbon dioxide from the first step of primary steel production.

To refine the steel's composition, it is then re-heated to 1250° Celsius in an EAF Furnace.

The EAF (Electric Arc Furnace molten steel) is now transferred to a ladle, and then to the continuous cast process. The liquid steel is then poured into the casting ladle, and then into a water-cooled mold.

The mold is where the solidification process begins. The CCM will produce continuous billets of different sizes depending on the length.

Quenching

The hot-rolled bars are removed from the mill and entered the Thermax System. This is a water sprayer system. Thermax Technology is used to rapidly cool the outer core of TMT bars and ensure the ductility for TMT Rebars. The core of TMT Rebars remains hot and Austenitic. Rapid cooling, however, hardens the outer core to the optimal depth for each segment. This creates a martensitic edge.

Quenching is the cooling process.

4. Self-tempering

The core of the Thermax Quenching Box remains hot compared to the surface. This heat allows heat to travel from core to surface. Tempering the outer Martensite layer results in the Tempered Martensite structure.

Atmospheric cooling

After self-tempering has been completed, the bars can be air cooled. This can be done in a normal-temperature cooling room. This stage transforms the austenitic core into a ferrite/pearlite structure. The final product will have a strong outermost layer and a flexible core. This treatment increases the material's strength and makes it more ductile.

There are many grades of TMT steel bars on the market.

Types of TMT Bars

Fe-415

Fe 415 is the most flexible and ductile steel TMT bar. It's ideal for residential and small-scale construction. It's therefore ideal for small frames that can be easily manufactured.

The building is equipped with Fe 415 TMT bars that provide earthquake resistance.

Fe500 grade

The Fe500 grade is a standard in many construction projects. Fe500D and Fe 500S are two versions of Fe500 that offer better seismic stability and ductility.

Fe 500 bars can be used in many residential, commercial and multi-story buildings because they have higher tensile strengths and ductility that Fe 415. This is specifically designed for high-rise constructions and provides stability while resisting load.

The Fe 500 TMT bars with dual texture are durable and feature a unique product design.

Fe550 grade

Fe 550 TMT bars are the next level in terms of tensile strengths. This bar is ideal for large-scale industrial projects and power plants as well as manufacturing facilities. These TMT bars are less impure and grip concrete very well. This ensures long-term weather resistance, safety, and durability. The Ladle Refining Furnace technology provides superior quality and durability.

Fe600 grade

Large-scale constructions will require Fe 600 steel TMT bars. For large-scale constructions such as bridges and underground constructions, high tensile strengths are required. Any steel mill can produce Fe 600, the highest quality TMT bar.
